UPDATE: August 12, 2020

The Metro Employees Historic Vehicle Association - MEHVA is a non-profit, tax exempt all volunteer group dedicated to the preservation of Seattle and King County's transit heritage through the restoration and operation of vintage transit vehicles as a working, living museum demonstrating the importance of public transportation in the region. Membership is open to anyone interested.

For the past thirty-five years the Metro Employees Historic Vehicle Association-MEHVA has sponsored excursions and special trips using the King County Metro Transit Historic Fleet of historic trolley and motor buses.

Late last year MEHVA was advised that our operating agreement had been reinterpreted and it was determined that our operation of the King County Metro Transit Historic Fleet was not covered for liability under Metro's self-insurance. This led to the cancellation of the Fall Foliage and the Santa’s Lights Tour excursions.

We are still pursuing efforts to get our operations of the King County Historic Fleet covered for liability. Unfortunately the combination of negotiating a labor agreement, the effects of COVID 19 on transit operations, the revenue effects of the pandemic on KCM's budget, reduction in force layoffs and the sudden resignation of the Transit General Manager have put MEHVA's situation on the back burner. We are about to begin a renewed push to resolve the situation. We are asking you to call, e-mail or write to voice your support for MEHVA's continued operation of the Historic Fleet.

UPDATE: May 19, 2020

2020 EXCURSION SCHEDULE CANCELED

For the past thirty-five years the Metro Employees Historic Vehicle Association-MEHVA has sponsored excursions and special trips using the King County Metro Transit Historic Fleet of historic trolley and motor buses.

Late last year MEHVA was advised that our operating agreement had been reinterpreted and it was determined that our operation of the King County Metro Transit Historic Fleet was not covered for liability under Metro's self-insurance. This led to the cancelation of the Fall Foliage and the Santa’s Lights Tour excursions. The MEHVA Board of Directors reached out to Metro's senior management team to help resolve this situation. Unfortunately, this situation has yet to be resolved.

Further complicating the resolution of this issue is the COVID-19 crisis, the County’s projected budget shortfalls due to the COVID-19 crisis and the uncertainties of the Safe Start plans for reopening timelines and how social distancing protocols will affect our operations. Given these circumstances the Metro Employees Historic Vehicle Association-MEHVA has canceled its excursions and activities for the 2020 season. We hope to return to operations in 2021.

Stay safe.
